GRIGGSVILLE, ILL. -- A Tri-State business is set to open its expanded facility in the coming months.
According to the Pike Press, Big River Fish plans to complete renovations at its new Griggsville facility in November.
The Pearl-based company processes Asian carp for export overseas.
Right now crews are working to construct a larger processing area, coolers, freezers and an ice plant in the former Sell Best Auction Building in Griggsville.
Officials hope to harvest 30 million pounds of troublesome Asian carp from the Illinois river and then send it to China for resale in high end restaurants there where the fish is considered a delicacy.
State grant funds cover the purchase price, expansion and additional equipment.
