KEOKUK, IOWA -- A lawsuit was filed in March by a "Jane Doe" alleging physical and sexual abuse by Keokuk teacher Gina Sisk, who formerly worked as an 8th grade science teacher and coach in the New London School District. That's according to Tri-States Public Radio.

The public radio station reports that Sisk and the New London School District face a total of ten counts between them in the civil lawsuit, but await a hearing scheduled for December 31 to see whether the lawsuit will proceed.

Charges in the civil lawsuit include assault and battery, negligence and violating the Iowa constitution.

Jason Parrott with Tri-States Public Radio reports that Keokuk Superintendent Tim Hood says the district is aware of the claims and Sisk, who is a teacher and coach, is currently on administrative leave pending an investigation.

The lawsuit alleges that the abuse began during an out-of-town sports event in 2000 when Jane Doe was 14-years-old and continued until she joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 2004 according to Parrot.
