Schwartz Insurance Services is an independent Life and Health Insurance agency, specializing in Medicare Supplement and Long Term Care Insurance.  The agency also offers Life Insurance and pre-65 individual health insurance, including Health Savings Accounts.


Stan Schwartz is a rural Adams County native and a graduate of the University of Illinois with an agricultural and real estate sales background.  He entered the insurance business in 1982, and spent nine years in direct, multi-line insurance sales to select classes of business in western Illinois.  He then spent a few years in multi-line, independent insurance sales with a local agency.  In 1993, he began selling Long Term Care Insurance as a result of becoming Power of Attorney for two aunts, both of whom were residents of a nursing home.   Stan opened his own agency in August of 1995 after seeing the need for a full-time senior insurance specialist in the community.   He received the Medicare Supplement Accredited Advisor (MSAA) designation in 2005, and began working with the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plans at the introduction of the program in mid-2005.  The agency represents more than 20 companies, allowing consumers to make the best choice of coverage and price for their particular age and health.

Question

What is this new “Plan N” that I have been hearing about?

Answer

Plan N is a new Medicare Supplement (Medigap) offering.  It was introduced in the June, 2010 revamping of the standardized plans by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).  It offers lower premiums than common plans previously purchased, in a trade-off for a deductible and co-payments for certain services.

Do I, as an agent, recommend the new Plan N for Medicare Supplement?

Answer

Plan N is a viable alternative to the more traditional Plan F, but at a certain risk.  I ensure that all facts are revealed, both pro and con.  Each person must choose based on their risk tolerance.

Is it true that all Medicare Supplement Plans are the same, regardless of the company?

Answer

Yes, that is true, as long as you are comparing a Plan F by one company to a Plan F of another company; a Plan N of one company to a Plan N of another, etc.  Fortunately, for the consumer, there has been little problem with any Medicare Supplement companies operating in this part of the state.  Regarding claims payment, MEDICARE determines the eligibility, and the company is mandated to pay as a SUPPLEMENT to what Medicare approves.

Question

If all Medicare Supplement plans are the same, why is there such a difference in the premiums from one company to another?

Answer

There is no room to explain this one at this writing!  In a nutshell, companies are competitive in the marketplace on a cyclical basis.  The reasons are complex.  Some factors include corporate and marketing decisions, management efficiency, and simply “luck of the draw,” that is, who happens to be unfortunate enough to have a multitude of large claims.

What is a "Long Term Care Specialist?"

Answer

A specialist is an agent who devotes his time to a segment of the insurance industry, in this case, Long Term Care.  The specialist's function is to educate, simplify, and assist individuals in this critical area of financial planning.

Are the best-known insurance companies best for me?

Answer

Maybe . . . maybe not.  An independent specialist can help you choose the company that best suits your needs.

Is Long Term Care Insurance just nursing home insurance?

Answer

Not anymore!

Most current plans are comprehensive.  This means that they can provide funds for home care, assisted living, or other alternatives.  Long Term Care insurance is the obvious answer to help you preserve your assets, your choices, your dignity.

Doesn't Medicare pay for Nursing home Care?

Answer

It can.  But it often doesn’t.  Medicare sets forth stringent guidelines which must be met before any payment can be made on your behalf.  Unfortunately, most of us never inquire, or we assume a benefit that doesn't exist under Medicare provisions.

Who needs Long Term Care insurance?

Answer

Maybe it's easier to say who doesn't need Long Term Care Insurance.  According to most experts, those with less than $75,000 (excluding home equity) will be forced to rely on government assistance for their care. For those with a nest egg, insurance can help you preserve you assets, your choices, your dignity.

Answer

A very simple, yet complex, question.   Because we all die, and because we do not know WHEN we will die, it’s fairly safe to say that more of us need it than do not.  It is both a financial and emotional issue.  There are a lot of questions to ask yourself, but it all boils down to two questions:  Who will be financially hurt by my death, and who can I really help by making this decision now, while I can?  I can help you look at your financial and family situation.  What is certain is “one size does not fit all.” I can assist with term and permanent plans designed for your needs from a variety of companies.
