BURLINGTON, IOWA -- A homeless man in Burlington is behind bars Friday morning for a crime spree that lasted several days.

33-year-old Kevin Ray Edler, Jr. is accused of stealing a vehicle from J.D. Electric on July 10.

Police say he was caught on camera using it as a get-away vehicle after allegedly burglarizing a Mexican restaurant, El Taco Casa, on July 10.

During their investigation, police found the stolen vehicle and attempted to stop Edler in the vehicle. That's when he attempted to elude officers until he came to a stop in the 400 block of South Plane Street and fled on foot. Police arrested Edler after a brief foot chase.

Numerous burglaries were reported in the Burlington and West Burlington area overnight of July 11 and July 12. The investigation into these burglaries is ongoing to determine Edler’s possible involvement with those burglaries as well.

The West Burlington Police Department, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, and the Southeast Iowa Narcotics Task Force assisted the Burlington Police Department in the investigation.

Edler faces charges of vehicle theft, third degree burglary, eluding an officer, and probation violations. He also faces two counts of burglary.
