MACON COUNTY, MO. -- William Darrell Joyner, 45, is accused of stalking a 12-year-old Macon girl.

Joyner, who is listed on the state's sex offender registry, is charged with aggravated stalking.

Our sister station KTVO reports that according to court papers, Joyner had lived with the victim’s family briefly. He had expressed his love for the child and said that they were soul mates, and were meant to be together.

Joyner moved out of the family's home and was then accused of continuing to express his love for the child in text messages and by having direct contact with the family, court documents said. He is also accused of driving near the area of her school bus and observing her on multiple occasions waiting for the bus.

Joyner is on the sex offender registry after being convicted of lewdness involving a child in West Valley, Utah in 1996 and again in 2002.

He has pleaded not guilty in Macon County Associate Circuit Court and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on February 28.

He is being held in the Macon County jail without bond.
