HANNIBAL, MO. -- Do you know what Admiral Coontz's first name is? Or when the U.S.S. Coontz was dismantled? If so, you're one step closer to completing Hannibal's Nipper Park Scavenger Hunt.

"This scavenger hunt makes you read the little plaques, it makes your count all the benches, it makes you find every bit of Nipper Park and see parts of it and history of Hannibal that you never knew was there before," Mary Lynn Richards, from Hannibal Parks and Recreations, said.

Richards' created the free scavenger hunt. She kept the clues pretty simple because she wanted the hunt to be for all ages.

"I had my kids and their cousins do this on Thanksgiving Day and these are teenage boys and they did it as a race," Richards said. "They had a blast, it took them about 15 or 20 minutes. I've also had younger kids do it with their parents."

And you never have to leave the park to get a clue or answer.

"The questions are all around the park," Richards said. "It forces you to walk around Nipper Park and learn about all the things we have here."

But what's a scavenger hunt without a sweet prize when you finish?

"You get a sample of gelato from Chocolaterie Stam," Richards said. "They have a gelato of every kind, all kinds of chocolate, it's delicious."

Free treats and quality time with your loved ones ... a win no matter who finishes the scavenger hunt first.

You can participate in the Nipper Park Scavenger hunt any time or day or the week.
