HANNIBAL, MO. -- The Hannibal Parks and Recreation Department hosted its first annual "Pedal Power" Saturday.

Children, ages two to six, had a chance to ride their tricycles and big wheels around the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. A track of cones paved the way.

Mary Lynne Richards with Hannibal Parks and Recreation says it is a good and safe way for kids to unwind and step away from the television.

"We want to provide some fun free activities for kids. We want them to be active all year around. Not just in the summer. We have beautiful parks for them to go to in the summer, but in the winter, you know, I have had toddlers. I know there is not much for them to do," Richards said.

Saturday's event was free to the public.
