The Flood of 2008 may have gutted the Southside Boat Club in Keokuk, Iowa, but the members and the community are dedicated to keeping the group afloat.
Today they held a Flood Relief Auction at the Elks Fairview Golf Club.
Hundreds of items were donated by the community, including tickets to a Cardinals-Cubs baseball game in the Ozzie Room in St. Louis, a condo weekend in the Ozarks, big screen t'-v's, and a 9 foot Marlin Fish.
The damage to the building was estimated at $73,000.
The club's president, Kathy Farris says they plan to use the funds to refurbish the building and hopefully, with the city's help, raise the building above flood stage.
Justen Arnold asked, "How's it feel to see so many people come out and support the club and help with donating these items?"
"Totally heart warming, community, non-members, all the clubs in town have been so supportive and I couldn't be happier, and I've had a wonderful committee put this together," said Farris.
Without a building, Farris says they are having a difficult time finding places to gather, plan, and stage fundraising events.
The Southside Boat Club is a social club, one of two along the Mississippi River in Keokuk.
