HANNIBAL, MO. -- National Tom Sawyer Days kicked off this weekend in Hannibal with the little Miss and Mr. contest. Click here to read the results of the competition.

More events began Monday with a pet contest and will continue with the arts and crafts show Tuesday and Wednesday in Central Park.

National Tom Sawyer Days has been a Hannibal tradition for 57 years. It brings wholesome family fun to Author Mark Twain's Hometown.

Activities include: the National Fence Painting Championships; a frog-jumping competition; Tom and Becky contest; Tomboy Sawyer competition; the Sam Clemens Kiwanis Arts and Crafts Show; Mississippi mud volleyball; concerts and entertainment; dancing; food and the famous Hannibal Cannibal 10k/5k run and 5k walk.

A spectacular fireworks display celebrates the birth of the U.S.A.
