QUINCY, ILL. -- What would you do if you had only had 30 days notice to move out of your home?

That's all the time some of the residents of the Quincy bottoms have been given.

KHQA's Stephen Johnson spoke to one woman who received a letter the day after Thanksgiving, that has pulled the ground out from beneath her and left her with more questions than answers.

With a lump in her throat Carolyn Dunivin read the following excerpt from a letter she received to me: "This letter is sent to advise you that your lease is being terminated as of 30 days of the receipt of this letter. Ms. Langan will accept no further payments on the lease and would ask that you quit and deliver up the property to her as soon as possible and in a reasonable fashion."

The day after Thanksgiving, Carolyn Dunivin received this letter from Attorney Don Heck on behalf of the landlord Ms. Cleatis Langan.

The letter states that she has 30 days before being evicted from her home of more than 20 years. But Carolyn is not alone.

In total, 19 residents who call the Quincy bottoms home have until 2 days before Christmas to find a new place to live.

Carolyn's home is warm and cozy. Built by her late husband, it's made up of two trailers put together with an added roof and deck and would be very hard to move in one piece.

Carolyn say's she is at a loss as to what she can do next.

"I even told the lady's grandson that it can't be moved and he come out and told me that I better find me a good mover because it has to be moved. And I can not move my house. And I have nowhere to go. So I guess I just got to walk away from my house. I don't know," Carolyn said. "I offered to buy this land, just this little piece of land is all I ask for. This is my home and I don't believe that they understand this. You know this is coming from my heart. I just ... I can't understand it. I really can't."

KHQA spoke with Attorney Don Heck who is representing Ms. Langan. He says he has no idea why the landowner wants to sell the property.
