KEOKUK, IOWA -- Students at Keokuk High School should expect delays Friday morning after a Facebook post drew the attention of school officials and police.

Parents began calling the school Tuesday claiming that they read a post that someone was going to shoot up the school on Friday.

Police Chief Dave Hinton said that the post gained traction on Facebook and that his department has been looking in to the matter since Monday. "There is nothing that has been verified as a legitimate but In light of what has recently taken place, we have stepped up our concentration on this area," he said.

Principal Larry Frakes released a statement stressing that there was no direct threat to the district and that the post referred to threats made to a different school years ago. Police were also made aware of the issue, according to Frakes' statement.

School officials interviewed numerous students about the rumor.

The school currently on lockdown and added security will be on hand Friday.
