FT. MADISON, IOWA -- UPDATED: July 3 at 9:40 p.m.
The Fort Madison city council voted down a proposal to participate in a a national TV series ... for now.
The program " Today in America with Terry Bradshaw" would like to feature the town in a segment of the show.
But first the city would be required to sign a participation agreement that would require the city to pay around $20,000.
Tuesday night the council decided that the price was too high.
The city is also considering another opportunity and needs time to compare the two.
Further discussion on the matter is expected at the next council meeting.

The City of Fort Madison, Iowa has the chance of being featured on a national television series.
According to the Fort Madison Daily Democrat, "Today in America" with Terry Bradshaw wants to come to Fort Madison. In order for this to happen, the city has to sign a participation agreement.
As part of the series, it would provide a five-minute marketing segment which is shown one time nationally on the Discovery Channel, and 19 additional times on a combination of CNN Headline News and other regional networks.
Once completed, the city would own rights to the segment. The five minutes of fame comes with a hefty price tag of $19,800. This five minutes of national fame could have lasting effects for the city, however, because Fort Madison could use the segment for marketing and promotional purposes.
If Fort Madison city council approves the topic, $5 thousand dollars would come from city funds. The city hopes the remaining balance will come from the city tourism commission.
According to their website, the series "Today in America successfully blends business news stories, lifestyle features and in-depth interviews with doctors, scientists, inventors, business owners, philanthropists and newsmakers from a variety of industries. Today in America is the first show of its genre hosted by Terry Bradshaw that’s geared towards the educated, affluent viewer."
