QUINCY, ILL. -- The Quincy School Board could get some help in finding a new superintendent.

Monday night, the board heard from two organizations about how they could help the board with its search.

One firm, called School Exec. Connect would cost an all-exclusive $10,000 plus advertising costs.

Meanwhile, the Illinois Association of School Boards would cost the district a baseline of $5000 along with various tacked-on expenses.

School board president Bill Daniels says it's becoming much more competitive for superintendents today, and that the board owes the community the best candidate it can find.

"We know that there are certain candidates that won't get involved in a public process or won't turn their name into a school board because they're concerned about confidentiality," Daniels said. "A search firm provides that level of confidentiality for those candidates."

Former district finance director Bud Martin is acting as interim superintendent under a 60-day contract.

He said that he will have served 50 days of that contract by the end of August.

Martin says one person can only serve as interim superintendent for 100 days per school year in the State of Illinois.

Another person will have to take over if he exceeds that amount.
