Area agencies partner up to help those in need Superbowl Sunday

QUINCY, IL -- As you're rooting for your favorite teams during Superbowl XXXXIII, 3 area agencies want you to remember those in need.

Quanada, Two Rivers, and Quincy Catholic Charities partnered with Kreiger's to host Souperbowl of caring.  From now, until Superbowl Sunday, you can drop off non-perishable items at Kreiger's.

The 3 agencies all have food pantries, and say there's always a need.  The concept came from a South Carolina pastor in 1988, who prayed for those on Superbowl Sunday, who didn't have a bowl of soup to eat.

"The numbers are so great. With the economy the way it is, all 3 of our organizations have seen an increase with people, and an increase in the type of people coming in. At any given time, there are more of the middle class that need help. That scares people, it affects many of us," said Quanada Executive Director Jerry Gille.

The goal is to raise 43,000 tems.  If you're a member of a church group or organization, and would like to participate, call Quanada, Two Rivers, or Quincy Catholic Charities to find out more.
