There's a new addition to Hannibal's medical campus.

A local physician opened Riverside Dermatology earlier this year to provide more skin care and cosmetic services to patients.

Comfort was key for dermatologist Dr. Linda Cooke in designing and opening this new facility. The décor looks more like a living room than an exam room. And after procedures, patients can leave the facility through these doors, instead of walking back through public areas.

What has the reaction been like from the community so far?

Board Certified Dermatologist Linda Cooke, MD said, "The reaction has really been great. People are really excited when they come in."

More important than the focus on comfort is the state of the art medical technology offered here normally found only in big cities. One example is MOHS surgery. This procedure named after the creator of the procedure is the latest technology for skin cancer patients with a 99 percent cure rate. Until now, area patients had to travel to St. Louis and Columbia to get the special surgery. Now a specialized physician is bringing it to America's hometown.

Dr. Cooke said, "We can make sure they have clear margins and are free of skin cancer during surgery. Sometimes that can be an all-day event, but here that decreases their travel time."

Riverside Dermatology also offers specialized cosmetic procedures like botox and dysport...acne care and massage therapy...as well as professional quality facial products.

What does this bring to Hannibal?

Dr. Cooke said, "I think this was an unmet need. Normally, a facility like this would be expected in a large metropolitan area."

Riverside Dermatology is holding an open house November 5th.
