QUINCY, IL -- The area had a couple of upcoming projects to celebrate Wednesday evening.

The Great River Economic Development Foundation held its annual meeting at the Quincy Civic Center.

Here are two of the big highlights -- talk of new wind energy opportunities in rural Adams County.

You'll recall Tuesday night, the Adams County board approved a site to allow the area to work with Acciona.

That's a wind turbine generator manufacturing company that's interested in building wind turbines in the northeast part of the county.

Mayor John Spring also formally announced that a 3-story housing development will go up at the former Franklin Square.

The complex will have a little more than 40 units, complete with underground parking.

Construction is expected to start this spring.

GREDF President Jim Mentesti said, "Watching and talking to people as they left, they typically come to a GREDF meeting expecting some things to be positive even under difficult times. But I think we sent them away believing that we worked some wonders in 2009 and that we have set the stage for 2010."

Mentesti said he's waiting to hear back from the federal government about money for a new port.

The area has asked for about $50 million and expects to hear back in about a month or so.

The port would serve the large industries already in place and help attract new businesses.
