MACOMB, ILL. -- Last August the city of Macomb received a more than quarter million dollar grant to update its west side.
The money was given to tear down five houses on West Jackson Street and turn the area into a green space.
The demolition was supposed to begin last month, but the houses still stand.
The step they're stuck on is hiring a contractor to remove the asbestos from the houses.
The city council has taken bids but are not satisfied with any of them yet.
Now they will have to re-bid the project.
"The general contractor for demolition will be responsible for hiring the subcontractor to remove the asbestos during the demolition process. Rather than being a two step process, it will be a one step process," said Macomb City Administrator Dean Torreson.
City council will discuss the issue at next Monday's board meeting.
