QUINCY, ILL. -- A tough economy has taken its toll on the Adams County United Way goal.

The agency was trying to raise $1,125,000.

It announced Monday evening, that the money raised was just a little short of the goal.

So far, it's brought in $1,087,000.

Campaign chair, Mike Mahair, says he hopes to still reach the goal.

"We knew it'd be a difficult year. Probably not as difficult as last year. I think the overall mood in the community and Adams County is much better than last year. Nevertheless, unemployment is still a problem locally and nationally we're cautiously optimistic we can achieve our goal," says Mahair.

The announcement Monday is the end to the formal campaign, but donations can still trickle in.

And there are some businesses who have not yet turned in their donations.
