QUINCY, ILL. -- It was a very chilly Saturday in the Tri-States but that didn't stop more than three hundred people from jumping in the icy cold waters. It was all part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge in Quincy.

This jump in the lake benefits the Special Olympics Illinois and was one of 18 events taking place across the state.

Also part of the plunge, scouting out the best costumes, and there were lots to choose from.

We spoke to one person who came all the way from Chicago for the event.

"I figured, why not? Somebody said, 'hey, can you do a polar plunge for me?' so I said why not?" said Jordan Dillingham.

Dillingham was joined by a group of friends, most of whom were shaking straight out of the water.

"It was freezing! I came in excited thinking, 'this is gonna be fun.' Smack dead, I hit the water and I just turned cold and numb," said Ramone Grayson, a Polar Plunge participant.

A Super Plunge is taking place this weekend into Lake Michigan. Participants had to raise a minimum of $2,500 and have to take the plunge every hour for 24 hours.
