MACON COUNTY, MO. -- Our sister station, KTVO in Kirksville tells us that a Northeast Missouri high school student was killed and another injured in a two vehicle crash at 9:30 Friday morning on Highway 63 at the Atlanta junction.

Atlanta High School student, Joshua "Bub" Rhodes, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene by Macon County Coroner Brian Hayes.

His passenger, Vincent Elrod, 16, also an Atlanta High School student, was flown from the scene by Air Evac, to University Hospital in Columbia, where he is listed in critical condition.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol says the crash occured when Rhodes pulled his car from Route M onto Highway 63 into the path of a northbound pickup driven by Roger Cox, 78, of Bowling Green, Missouri. Cox was not injured.

Neither Rhodes nor Elrod were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Services are pending at Elliott Funeral Home in Atlanta.

It has been posted on the KTVO Facebook page that there will be a prayer vigil Friday night in Atlanta at Church Without Walls at 7 p.m.
