KEOKUK, IOWA -- Keokuk Middle School is getting a face lift.

About 70 trees will be planted as part of the Keokuk Trees for Tomorrow program.

Crews started digging early Friday morning.

Maple and oak trees were planted throughout the day.

Students from the middle school helped out as well.

Tim Peevler with Keokuk Trees Forever says, "This will totally transform their campus. We'll be combining this with educational opportunities. They'll be able to see the trees going in. Several of the groups have asked to come out and participate... Help plant, do mulching, that type of thing. So, we're hoping this will be a real buy in for the students as well."

Keokuk is one of 10 cities in the state of Iowa to receive a grant for the project.

The Trees for Tomorrow program received about $8,000.
