QUINCY, ILL. -- As students prepare to go back to school, they can't be reminded enough about the danger of texting and driving.

Saturday at the Quincy Mall, kids of all ages could take a seat at a simulated driving test to experience what could happen behind the wheel of a distracted driver.

You'd start off driving about 30-40 miles an hour. Then, your cell phone would get a text message that you were forced to respond to.Looking at the simulated street scene in front of you, the majority of people didn't do well at all.

"Most of them are not successful. It's not a pass or fail thing. It's not a game, it's a simulator. So we're just showing them how dangerous it can be. Probably about 60 percent of people that have done it have crashed," said Andrew Tipton, an organizer with Kramer Edu-tainment and the National Save a Life Tour.

Take the pledge to drive now and text later. KHQA and several local sponsors are working to raise awareness about the dangers of texting while driving.Take the Just Let It Ring pledge for a chance to win a car and save lives.
