QUINCY, ILL. -- Quincy teachers remained in the classroom Tuesday, even as their current Quincy Federation of Teachers' one year contract passed its expiration date.
Representatives from the school board and bargaining unit will go back to the table this Thursday evening.
Both sides haven't met for a while due to staffing changes at the Regional Illinois Federation of Teachers office.
Former union president Michelle Eberlin has taken a job as the Regional Illinois Federtation of Teachers Director. She is no longer with the Quincy School District. She replaces IFT's former director John Baird.
Superintendent Lonny Lemon says the delay also came down to an understanding on both sides.
Lemon said, "We both agreed it was time to bring in a federal mediator as we did last year to get through the process and to get on their schedules was difficult so we haven't met in a couple of weeks. Hopefully we'll start to move forward again."
We talked to Luan Sandberg, the new President of the teacher's union.
She says the union is committed to work with the district to reach a collaborative agreement to bring to union members.
