UPDATED: August 30 at 11:09 a.m.

Keokuk police are investigating what looks to be a suspicious death in the 1600 block of Concert Street Tuesday morning.

Police Chief Tom Crew told KHQA a call came into the station Tuesday morning asking that police check on the well-being of a person inside the home at 1602 Concert Street. Upon arrival, police found the person deceased.

Chief Crew would not say what lead investigators to believe it was suspicious.

"Anytime we have a situation like this that we're unsure of, and it's not of natural causes and things like that, and has the potential for us to go a different direction with it, we secure the area and do an investigation which leads us to the cause of death," said Chief Crew.

The home was taped off until crime scene investigators from Des Moines arrived on scene. We'll continue to update this story as information becomes available.

We've gotten reports that Keokuk Police have responded to 16th and Concert St. for what neighbors think is a murder scene.

KHQA's Brooke Hasch is in Keokuk right now.

So far, authorities have not released any details, but they say that crime scene investigators were called in. They have not confirmed that it is a murder scene.

The original call came in just after 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.
