QUINCY, ILL. -- From Swastika to Jim Crow.

That was the topic of a racial justice video series presented by the Quincy YWCA tonight.

The symposium featured a 2000 documentary about the similarities between Nazism in Germany and racism in the American south.

The purpose of tonight's event was to educate and raise awareness about racism in our community.

Participants had a chance to discuss race relations following the film.

And one woman had some powerful words about her experience in the Tri-States.

Vanessa Brent said, "I lived 35 years in Chicago and moved to Quincy about 11 years ago, and I have never experienced racism as much as I've experienced moving to Quincy. I don't get angry anymore. I just pray for people, because I understand now that people only know what they've been taught."
