HAMILTON, ILL. -- A Hamilton man and his pets are safe after a Thursday house fire.

Hamilton Fire Chief Steve Helenthal says Tim Heavins was sleeping upstairs in his home at 1250 Laurel Street when fire broke out in the basement.

Firefighters pulled Heavins from his upstairs bedroom window and also rescued four dogs.

Heavins was treated and released from the Hancock County Ambulance Service.

The house sustained smoke and water damage.
