HANNIBAL, MO. -- You wouldn't expect a major water line project to begin in the dead of winter, but that's exactly what Bleigh Construction is doing in Hannibal.

Workers are laying a new water main line from the intersection of North Main and North Street south to South Main and Lyon.

This is the beginning of the project to lay water lines and connectors to most all the buildings along Main Street.

After that project is completed, then Main Street will get new sidewalks.

Bleigh has until late May to finish the water main project.

The project started on Monday which was about three weeks ahead of schedule.

The water lines that crews are replacing are about a hundred years old.
