KEOKUK, IOWA -- UPDATED: February 24 at 4:32 p.m.

The trial of St. Francisville man Tyler Hobbs, for the murder of Shawn Wright of Kahoka took a shocking and unexpected turn on Friday.

The Keokuk Daily Gate City reports that when Hobbs took the stand Friday, he pointed his finger at his former girlfriend, Kimberly Jaeger.

Hobbs testified that Jaeger has claimed that Shawn Wright had attempted to rape her in the past and he went on to say that while he was away from the vehicle on the night of November 9th 2010, that he heard a noise coming from the direction of the car where he had left Jaeger and Wright, according to the Daily Gate City.

The Daily Gate City reports that Hobbs said when he got back to the vehicle that he saw Shawn Wright laying on the ground and Kimberly Jaeger nearly catatonic and mumbling and Hobbs surmised that Jaeger must have reached into his vehicle, taken his mallet and hit Wright over the head four times.

Hobbs did admit to taking and dumping Wright's body at Gregory landing in Clark County according to the Daily Gate City report.

The trial continues on Monday.
