QUINCY, ILL. -- More then three hundred children in Adams County where found to be abused and neglected last year.

Barbara Baker Chapin, Director of Development at Transitions says huge strides continue to be made, but child abuse cases in Adams County are still high. One goal of Transitions of Western Illinois is to lower that number.

April is Child Abuse and Prevention Month and Monday kicked off a month-long community campaign.

For 15 years, Transitions has been reminding people that we must protect and nurture our children.

During the month of April it's sponsoring a Nurturing Children Campaign to help prevent child abuse.

Local law enforcement along with Quincy's Mayor John Spring tied blue ribbons on their cars to show awareness.

Along with the kick off to the campaign, four agencies where recognized for being advocates for children.

They are Advocacy Network for Children, Cheerful Home, Child and Family Connections and Catholic Charities.
