Hundreds of families in Western Illinois can't afford quality preschool on their own.
That may not sound like a huge deal until you realize that those kids are our future.
That's the message from America's Edge, a non profit group focusing on the importance of early childhood education.
The group got together Thursday morning with members of the community and business leaders to get the word out to the state legislature to not cut early childhood funding from the state's budget.
"We want to add our voices to others that are saying these are investments we shouldn't be walking away from even when the budget's really terrible. We can pay now or we can pay later," Tim Carpenter said.
Statistics show Illinois is falling behind in science, technology, engineering, and math type classes.
