QUINCY, ILL. -- There are many issues up for discussion at Monday night's Quincy City Council meeting.
One of those gives the Director of Inspection and Enforcement the authority to issue citations within the Quincy city limits.
The ordinance defines a set list of Municipal Code sections that the director might issue citations. Those are related to the city's nuisance, property maintenance, building, and related codes.
Currently, if there is an issue, a citation has to be written and given to the police department. Then the police department has to serve it, and that could take a couple of days. By that time, it could be difficult to find the problem.
"By having, frankly, one person, the director of enforcement, not all the building inspectors, only one person will be responsible for that notice of violation," Quincy City Planner Chuck Bevelheimer said. "We feel we can be more efficient in delivering a notice to appear in court if necessary."
This is the second reading for this specific ordinance.
