A woman arrested after her husband shot and killed himself made her first court appearance Tuesday.

Bethany Coyle, 28, is charged with reckless discharge of a firearm, Adams County State's Attorney Jon Barnard said. Her bond was set at $5,000.

“She is charged with an event that was the first part of what appeared to be a domestic dispute,” Barnard said.

The Quincy Police Department released new information about the events leading to 37-year-old Wallace Coyle's death around 4:11 a.m. Saturday.

The couple was embroiled in an argument when Bethany Coyle retrieved a handgun and fired a single round that struck a wall inside their home, according to a press release from Quincy Police Sgt. John Summers.

Following a struggle with the gun, Wallace Coyle grabbed it out of her hand and shot himself in the head, the press release says.

According to the Adams County Coroner, an autopsy revealed the gunshot was self-inflicted.
