QUINCY, ILL. -- More than half a million people took advantage of the Quincy Transit Lines last year and transit line director thinks the high price of gas and the convenience of the routes make riding the bus quite attractive.
Dana Crow knows just how economical it is to ride the city bus to and from her job. She gets on the bus on the southwest side of town, makes a transfer and then gets off on the east side of the city. She thinks it's one of the best bets in town.
"It's convenient, it's cheap. It's more economical then a car," Crow said.
And what she means by that is the cost of a monthly pass. For just $18 a month, a person can buy the pass and that allows you to ride the bus any time, anywhere for the entire month.
"I think people are realizing how convenient the service is. We've always had that good ridership, but with the gas prices and the economy and everything, I think people are really picking up on it," Transit Line director Marty Stegeman said.
Stegeman said there was a 5% increase in the number of riders from last year to this year. And he said the city is about to install 10 new bus shelters at several locations around the town. Stegeman also said the service could see a dip in ridership if gas prices continue to drop. But he says he's happy with what the city is able to provide.
