QUINCY, ILL. -- The Fourth of July is just a few days away.

Now the Quincy Fire Department, police agencies and the Adams County Safe Kids Coalition wanted to remind you about the dangers of fireworks.

Fireworks are legal in the State of Missouri.

But there are only a few kind of fireworks that are legal in Illinois.

During a safety demonstration, firefighters actually lit firecrackers to show what kind of injuries someone could suffer if they weren't cautious.

Firefighters say besides the dangers of getting burned, there is also the danger of setting dry grass and weeds on fire.

"We encourage you that if if you're going to use them, please have a bucket of water, a fire extinguisher or a hose nearby in case you do lit grass of weeds on fire.Even that can spread quickly and get to a structure.and cause a structure fire.Above all we want everyone to be safe this holiday weekend. And the best thing to do is go watch the public displays," said Quincy firefighter Jerry Smith.

If you are caught shooting fireworks in Illinois, you can be charged criminally, which can include a felony arrest.
