MOBERLY, MO. -- Two Macon County, Missouri men are in jail after an undercover operation revealed that they were selling stolen saddles on Craigslist.

What began as an investigation into the saddle thefts in Excello has led to a second arrest, and Macon County Sheriff's deputies believe they've solved a multi-county burglary ring.

Macon County Sheriff's deputies received a complaints July 16 of numerous burglaries in the 34000 block of Marshal Road in Excello. Macon County Sheriff Robert Dawson said the Excello victims noticed a posting on Craigslist advertising saddles for sale, which matched the description of their stolen property. On Tuesday, July 17 Macon County deputies arrested Randall Perkins, Jr., 33, of Kirksville in the parking lot of Moberly's Walmart Supercenter, after authorities set up a "sting" operation. Perkins, Jr. was arrested on two counts of second-degree burglary, a count of stealing over $500 and a count of stealing under $500.

The Sheriff says the investigation has also led to the arrest of the suspect's father, Randall Perkins, Sr., 56, of Moberly.

Perkins, Sr. has been charges with 6 counts of second degree burglary.

Dawson says additional stolen property has been recovered, including a saddle, hunting and fishing equipment, guns and tools.

Sheriff Dawson says Randall Perkins, Jr. “did not implicate his father, rather his investigators did an excellent job gathering information.” Dawson says his deputies have solved burglaries in several counties, including Macon, Randolph, Scotland and Shelby.

Randall Perkins, Jr. was sentenced to the Department of Corrections for 3 years last Thursday, July 12 in Shelby County Circuit Court for the sale/possession of equipment or parts with altered identification numbers equipment or parts with missing falsified id, and was to report to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, July 19 for transport to prison.
