QUINCY, ILL. -- The call went out and you responded.

Last week KHQA partnered with the Salvation Army and other agencies to fill food pantry shelves around the area. The response has been overwhelming.

In one week, the Salvation Army has received enough food to fill up 40 food boxes with plenty left over.

Just one week ago, there barely was enough food on shelves in the Quincy Salvation Army food pantry to fill one box.

Elizabeth Flynn, Regional Manager of Family Services for the Salvation Army in Quincy and Hannibal, says that besides some large donations, it was everyday people who really made the difference.

"The regular people who came in and brought the things that I had requested when I was interviewed by your cameras previously - it was gratifying, it was heartwarming and it brought tears to my eyes, literally," Flynn said.

On Monday, KHQA's Carol Sowers presented $400 in checks from KHQA employees to the Salvation Army, bringing the total amount of money donated to more than $5,000 and more than eight thousand items of food collected.
