It could take a week before friends and family of two Adams County children know what caused a fatal crash Friday morning.

Adams County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Fred Kientzle said the Illinois State Police returned to the scene Saturday morning to finish reconstruction of the crash.

The driver, Cassaundra Clinging, 16, and her 12-year-old brother, Chandler Clinging died in the crash. Kientzle said the car headed northbound on County Road 1600 E. lost control, struck a utility pole, rolled over and landed in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

The car struck several headstones and caught fire.  

The Clinging siblings lived in Fowler, about two miles from where the accident occurred. They were both students in the Liberty School District.

Hansen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy is handling funeral arrangements. According to its site, funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at Liberty High School, with Pastor Stacey Tomich and Pastor Lois Sorrill officiating. The burial will take place at Burton Cemetery in Burton, Illinois. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 7, at Liberty High School. Donations can be made to the Shelby Education Fund or Liberty Athletics.

Cassaundra and Chandler are survived by their parents, Chad and Stephanie Althoff Clinging and their sister, Shelby.

This is the second tragic accident near the airport in the last month. Fowler resident, Dakota Cantrell, 18, was killed July 7, in an ATV and vehicle crash on N. 1400th Ave.

The Adams County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that two are dead Friday after a one-car crash near Quincy Regional Airport.

Adams County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Fred Kientzle said a car northbound on County Road 1600 E lost control, struck a utility pole, rolled over and landed in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

The car caught on fire, and it appears that the occupants couldn't escape the vehicle, Kientzle said.

The names of the car's occupants are not known as of noon.

Firefighters, deputies, the Adams County Coroner and emergency medical officials reported to the crash scene.
