BEARDSTOWN, ILL. -- Beardstown voters will decide whether to allow the city to negotiate cheaper electricity rates.

Beardstown is the latest city in West-Central Illinois to look at electric aggregation.

According to Tri-State Public Radio, the city will put a referendum before voters in November.

If voters say yes, the city would purchase electricity on their behalf in an effort to get the lowest rate.

State law allows individual residents to opt-out of aggregation.

The Quincy City Council voted to send the same issue to its voters Monday. Click here to read that story.
