PALMYRA, MO. -- A former Palmyra High School teacher charged with having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student had his pre-trial conference rescheduled.

Randall Shepard appeared in court earlier this week. His attorney requested a delay.

The pre-trial conference is now scheduled for Sept. 5 in Palmyra. The hearing is six days before Shepard is scheduled for trial.

He is charged with second-degree statutory rape, second-degree statutory sodomy and sexual contact with a student by a teacher. The trial is scheduled for Sept. 11 and 12 at the Monroe County Courthouse in Paris.

The charges relate to Shepard's inappropriate sexual relations with a 16-year-old Palmyra High School student, the Missouri Highway Patrol has said.

Shepard, of Hannibal, was arrested without incident in March and remains in the Marion County Jail on $100,000 bond.

The Highway Patrol began investigating Shepard in January. Shepard, a former assistant football coach and communication arts teacher, was placed on paid leave Jan. 22 and was fired in February.
