The military has canceled the U.S. Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon exhibition that was originally set for Sept. 14 at Quincy Notre Dame.

According to QND's Marine contact, "We regret to inform everyone that the USMC Silent Drill Platoon event scheduled for Quincy, Illinois on Friday, September 14 has been cancelled by the military due to a lack of aircraft."

"We appreciate all the support the community has invested in this endeavor and hope that our community will continue to support this year's Toys for Tots Program," QND Principal Mark McDowell said in a release.

The platoon is a 24-man rifle platoon that performs a unique precision drill exhibition. These Marines execute a series of calculated drill movements and precise handling of their hand-polished, 10-and-one-half pound, M1 Garand rifles with fixed bayonets.

The routine concludes with a unique rifle inspection sequence demonstrating elaborate rifle spins and tosses.
