Draft ordinance to be reviewed at next meeting

MACOMB, ILL. -- Will Macomb residents be allowed to keep chickens in their yards?

That was the question the Macomb Planning Commission addressed at a public forum on Wednesday night.

The Commission decided that Community Development Coordinator Ed Bausch would draft an ordinance to address concerns such as lot size, whether or not roosters will be allowed, limiting the number of chickens per household and waste disposal.

Over the past six months the city has received three inquiries asking permission to keep poultry within the city limits.

Bausch will also look into similar ordinances in other cities the size of Macomb across the country.

The draft ordinance should be ready for review by the Commission's next meeting in November.
