Pumps dated back to the 50s
QUINCY, ILL. -- All good things must come to an end.
That's the fate of two pumps at the Quincy Water Treatment plant.
On Monday night, the Quincy City Council approved a bid by Prairie State Plumbing and Heating to replace the pumps that date back to the 1950s.
These now obsolete pumps will be replaced with high efficiency pumps that will use less electricity. And that could lead to lower rates.
David Kent, the Quincy Director of Utilities says, "Our water and our sewer rates are based upon a combination of things and one big component is electricity costs."
The company will have 4 to 5 months to replace the pumps.
Once the new pumps are in place, all 8 pumps in the water treatment plant will be low electricity, high efficiency pumps.
