MACOMB, ILL. -- If you're looking to fill your candy bag to its limit this Halloween, you may want to visit Macomb.

Trick-or-treaters can get up to three candy-filled nights this year.

"I like the idea of it, because if you have bad weather one night, it gives you another opportunity. If you have a sporting event, it gives you another chance to go," Officer J.P. McLaughlin, with the Macomb Police Department said.

The city of Macomb will offer two trick-or-treat nights Tuesday and Wednesday of next week beginning at 6 p.m. The city will call lights out at 8 p.m. But that doesn't have to mean the party's over.

"If you have a porch light on, it means you want trick-or-treaters. If you don't, it allows you to have a quiet night," McLaughlin said.

If walking through neighborhoods aren't your bag of fun, Western Illinois University will tempt you with yet a third night of candy on Monday. You're invited to explore the residence halls on campus for a night of spooky fun.

"It'll be a contained space. They don't have to walk from house to house. They can be here, go on tours and get to interact with college students," Tera Monroe, the director of Residence Life at WIU said.

If you have the little ones with you, Higgin's Hall will provide a family friendly haunted house from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Then, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. doors to all the residence halls will open for more fun.

"Some of the halls will do carnivals and pumpkin coloring with the students and then the children can walk the floors and get candy. They get all excited," Monroe said.

As always, the Macomb Police Department will step up its patrols during these nights as a safety measure for the crowds.

"Especially, when we have a set time, we try to focus our patrols on the neighborhoods. We try to saturate the area and be on the lookout and make sure everything goes smoothly," McLaughlin said.

Another event taking place in Macomb this year is the first annual Haunted Hill Run, sponsored by the YMCA of McDonough County.

You can join in on the fun this Saturday, October 27, outside the YMCA on Dudley St.

A Kid's Fun Run begins at 4:05 p.m. A 2 and 4-mile run/walk will immediately follow for the adults. Pre-registration costs $20. Registration the day of the race is $25. Costumes are optional.
