MORGAN COUNTY, ILL. -- A Jacksonville man died Sunday morning after a rollover crash just north of town.

Morgan County Coroner Jeff Lair said Mervin Loper, age 86, died at the scene on the Literberry blacktop, 1/4 mile east of route 78.

Loper ran off the south side of the road, then crossed over the north side and hit a ditch. The car rolled multiple times and ejected Loper from the car. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Loper died from massive trauma to the head, neck and chest.

The crash remains under investigation with the Morgan County Sheriff's Dept.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
