Quinn gets the green light to close JDC

JACKSONVILLE, ILL. (AP) -- It's official, a state board will allow Governor Pat Quinn to close the Jacksonville Developmental Center.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Service Review Board voted 6-1 on Tuesday to let the Illinois Department of Human Service to close the facility.

This decision comes despite the requests of dozens parents and others to keep it open.

Governor Quinn wants the JDC closed and says that residents should be moved into community care.

About 100 people still live in the center which is scheduled to close on November 21st.
