Missouri tobacco tax is lowest in the nation

MISSOURI (AP) -- On November 6th Missouri voters will decide whether or not to raise the state's tobacco tax.

Leaders in health, business and education in the state have joined forces to support that effort.

Right now the state has the lowest tobacco tax in the country.

Attempts to raise the tax by smaller amounts in 2002 and 2006 failed.

If voters approve the tax increase education officials hope to get access to close to $300 million dollars in revenue that would be used to support public schools.
