QUINCY, ILL. -- It's no easy task showing up at work at 4:30 a.m. with a smile on your face. But the morning crew at Starbucks, makes it look that way.

"It's a fun job I don't feel like I'm at work," Jeanine Frerick-Moss, a veteran barista, said.

Frerick-Moss has been working the morning shift for almost four years and he favorite part of the job is the people.

"Our customers are great, we know them by know, we try to get to know a lot about them."

A place where everybody really does know your name.

"I think a lot of people think they have to have coffee in the morning to get their day started but a lot of them come in for the environment," Ellen Mickels, Quincy Starbucks store manager, said. "They come in to see our energy and it's kind of contagious. You have to show energy, a lot of smiles, charisma, not afraid to talk to people and not be so tight you have to be very loose."

"It's fun to see the smile on their face because we're having fun so they should be able to have fun with us," Christian Bias, a Starbucks barista, said.

But of course it about more than fun, it's about coffee.

"They have to have a barista certification and then they go through extensive training on how to pull shots correctly, how to steam milk correctly, how to grind coffee into the right coarse," Mickels said.

Skills Frerick-Moss is glad to put to use every morning to make you cup of joe, just the way you like it.
