QUINCY, ILL. -- After a good meal and some great entertainment, area seniors were treated to a special tour of the Quincy Avenue of Lights Display.

For nearly 15 years, seniors like these have had the opportunity to view the display thanks the the cooperation of the Quincy Police, Adams County Sheriff's Department, the Quincy Fire Department and the Quincy Senior and Family Resource Center.

Gail Murray, the Director of the Meals Plus for Seniors programs, says that besides all the fun and the tour, the event also gives seniors a chance to learn about the service offered at the senior center.

Murrays says, "You come here for something fun, but this could be the go to place when you need home delivered meals, when you need a congregate meal site, when you need homebound services. You feel familiar and you feel safe in this environment that's why we do things like this."

The Meals Plus for Seniors program is continuing its holiday pie sale as a fundraiser for the program.

Each $10 pie you purchase equals a meal for a senior. You can choose from flavors like apple, blackberry, pecan, pumpkin and sweet potato. There are also combination deserts, coffee cake and Boston cream pie are available.

The pies will also be sold this weekend at the Christ Kindl market this Saturday and Sunday at Washington Park.

Meals plus will also be selling lunch that day as one of between 18-20 vendors.

The group is also holding a fundraising dinner.

Tickets are $12.

And as always the program can always use volunteers.
