HANNIBAL, MO. -- Everyone from Snow White to Captain America gathered in downtown Hannibal for tea on Saturday afternoon.

The Christmas Princess and Super-Hero Tea Party offered a free family friendly event.

"I have a little girl that loves princesses and a little boy that loves super-heroes and I thought it would be a good day," Kristy Doellman said.

Families and Communities Together, or F.A.C.T. hosted the tea party in conjunction with "Home for the Holidays." A sizable donation of Disney items to the organization gave them the idea for the party. F.A.C.T. lured kids in with idolized comic book and fairy tale figures, and used the day to teach kids and parents a lesson on healthy eating.

Hannibal Clinic Health Services provided "healthier food alternatives" for guests at the party. C.E.O. of F.A.C.T. Stephanie Thomeczek said,"Some of my staff came up with the idea of doing a princess tea party where we could focus on alternatives to snacking over the holidays for children and also easy ways that families could get in the kitchen together."

Behind the masks and under the tiaras, many of the tea party's volunteers were local pageant winners and members of Hannibal High School's National Honor Society and Key Club.

By bringing in older students to act as role models, F.A.C.T. had another mission in mind, "What that shows our kids is that there's lots of fun ways to be involved in your community, not just picking up trash or doing food for the community. You can also give back by being a positive example for younger children."

Father, and tea party guest, Adam Zanger agrees with the idea, "I think kids will do whatever princesses and super-heroes tell them to do basically. They're pretty impressionable so if super-heroes and princesses do it and its good for them, its good for the kids too."

Throughout the night kids could win prizes for answering trivia questions about their favorite characters, and every kid left with a gift.
