MACOMB, ILL. -- The Macomb city council is cracking down on large outdoor parties.
This after last year's Wheeler Block party got out of control, police stepped in with tear gas to evacuate the nearly 5 thousand people on scene.
According to Tri-State Public Radio, council members unanimously approved four new ordinances designed to control large outdoor parties.
They say they aren't banning large gatherings like the Wheeler Street block party, but trying to control them.
One ordinance defines "nuisance" parties, while another requires hosts of parties with more than 150 people to obtain a city permit at least 14 days ahead of the event.
Parties also must be fenced in, with one security guard hired for every 50 people present.
Hosts are also required to carry at least a $300 thousand dollars of liability insurance.
Violators of the mass gatherings ordinance would be fined a minimum of $500.
